Futon Fighting

This is an Intaglio proof for a bigger, more complex series that I wanted to get into later. I started with some simple sketches, shown on top, and then created a simple zinc plate etching with bold lines, shown in the middle, and then finished with some simple shading, on the bottom. I never really refined this Intaglio plate very much but I still get a big kick out of seeing the proofs in my portfolio of drawings and prints.

'Futon Wrestling' is actually an activity that my brother, and a friend of his, invented and we later made into a complete game with rules. If you have a single sized futon, the game is simple to play. In a way, it's like 'Fight Club', lol, you take off shoes, belts, jewelry ~ anything that could get caught on something and hurt the other person. Then, two people step onto the futon and shake hands, the moment you let go, the game is on.

The ONLY goal is to get the other person to TOUCH the floor, off of the futon. Great thing about this game is that it doesn't always go to the strongest person, in fact, speed, flexibility and great balance seem to be the best traits to have. I'm NOT suggesting you go try it, AND GET HURT, but if you want to invent and play a game like it, who am I to discourage you?

TIP: Move furniture away from the futon and the futon from the wall ~ we often tumbled off the futon several feet and nearly hit hard stuff or the walls. Oh yeah, beware of rug burns! If you're careful, you won't get hurt, much, hehe.
